All The Kings Horses
As I was looking back over photos from the wonderful show the Alabama Arabian horse club put on in Tunica, MS last year, it was impossible to not smile when I came across the pictures from the Costume Class—not the Arabian Native Costume Class! I’m referring to the Mounted Elvis Costume Class, just one of the many activities this show committee includes to ensure exhibitors have maximum fun in addition to enjoying a wonderful show facility.
Coming across those pictures inspired me to dig a little deeper to see if I could find a real connection between Elvis Presley and horses—and what I connection I found!
A recently published book by Kimberly Gatto and Victoria Racimo, “All the King's Horses: The Equestrian Life of Elvis Presley”, is a wonderful read about Elvis’ legendary love of horses and his search for his “perfect horse”. After reading it, I came away with a much different image of Elvis than the one that most of us have of this larger than life celebrity! Horsemen will appreciate the author’s equestrian perspective as they paint a picture of Elvis the horseman— someone you feel you could easily have hung out with and talked horses.
